The sole purpose in a presentation is persuasion, this is done in a myriad of ways including engagement, comedy, rhetorical questioning etc. Effective Communication is a very demanding skill which even adults struggle to achieve, but the module seeks to increase the awareness of the students where this is concerned. We might be merely skimming the surface, but persuasion is still key to any winning presentation or speech.
Using the media, where students are most familiar, we springboard into the effectiveness of advertising or communicating through images and taglines. From there, we go through the different levels of convincing an audience. Students practice persuasion in its raw form as salesman and from there we show they how they may create buy-in. Thus giving them an introduction into Persuasive Communication.
